Director Sasha King has exclusive access to Vicky Phelan and her family documenting the remarkable journey this young Irish woman has been on from her Cervialcheck smear misdiagnosis, receiving a terminal 6-12 month prognosis, to bringing the American billion dollar Laboratory and Irish Health System to court and refusing to sign a confidentiality agreement, as she had reason to believe there were other women also in her situation … another 9 she thought as the names were blacked out. To date there has been 221 plus women affected by this scandal and 20 women have died. Vicky is an extra ordinary woman fighting and campaigning for those woman and to eradicate cervical cancer in Ireland forever.

Sasha is presently filming the extraordinary story about Vicky Phelan called ‘Vicky - the woman that changed Ireland’.
Sasha King, Irish Film Director and Producer has had a world release of her directorial debut feature film AKRON with US distributor Wolfe (Moonlight) reaching number 1 on Amazon in the LGBTQ category.
AKRON also featured front and center on iTunes for PRIDE month 2017 and is currently in the top 10 iTunes Independent Movie chart.
AKRON has also just penned a deal with Hulu.
Casting for AKRON was done by Stephanie Yankitt (Birdman) in New York and the film was shot over 3 weeks in Ohio and Florida.
Sasha brought Irish DOP Paddy Jordan (The Young Offenders) over to shoot the film as they had previously worked together.
The cast included Broadway star Andrea Burns (On your feet, Into the Heights) playing Lenora Cruz, Joseph Melendez (Ozark) as David Cruz, Matthew Frias as Benny Cruz and Edmund Donovan as Christoper Welling. Sasha raised the budget for the film initially with an online Kickstarter campaign that raised 50,000 USD in 1 month. From there deals were struck and negotiated with private investors.
All post production for the film was done with Princess Pictures in Dublin with Bill Snodgrass at the helm, editing, doing sound design and scoring the original soundtrack.
AKRON has won 11 festival awards and has been described as 'evolutionary in LGBTQ filmmaking'.
Benny and Christopher, college freshmen, meet playing football and begin a relationship. They fall in love supported by their family and friends. As their love for each other grows, a past tragic event involving their mothers comes to light. This revelation tests their own love and Benny’s close-knit family.
